Cappuccino is one of the most beloved classics of Italian coffee culture. It is prepared with the perfect combination of intense espresso, hot milk and a thick layer of milk foam. Consisting of three equal layers, cappuccino balances the strong aroma of coffee with soft milk, while the thick layer of foam on top gives the drink a characteristic creamy texture. It is usually served with cocoa powder or cinnamon sprinkled on top, which further enriches the flavor of cappuccino.

Ingredients for Cappuccino

  • 1 shot (30 ml) of espresso
  • 120 ml milk (Whole milk with at least 3,5% fat content)
  • Alternatively, you can use barista milk, which is specially formulated for better frothing.
  • Among plant-based milks, oat milk or almond milk provides the best foam.
  • Milk foam
  • Optional: Cinnamon or cocoa powder for garnish

How to Make Cappuccino?

  1. Prepare 1 shot (30 ml) of espresso using your espresso machine with freshly ground coffee beans.
  2. Use a milk frother to heat 120 ml of milk (slightly more than half a glass) to 60-65°C. (For a soft and creamy foam, whole milk is recommended.)
  3. Pour the espresso into a coffee cup.
  4. Add the steamed milk and finally create a thick milk foam layer on top.
  5. If desired, garnish with cinnamon or cocoa powder.

What is the Difference Between Cappuccino and Caffe Latte?

  • Cappuccino: Contains 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 milk foam. It has a thicker foam layer.
  • Caffe Latte: Has more steamed milk and a thin foam layer, resulting in a smoother taste.
