10 Special Places in Istanbul for Mother’s Day 2026

anneler günü istanbul mekan

This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 10. You may have already started thinking about gifts; the next question is “where should we go that day?”

Below, we’ve put together 10 places for you. We’ve gathered a range of options — from a Bosphorus-side breakfast to a gallery visit, from a lunch with a view to a day trip to one of the islands. Under each, we’ve added the address, Sunday hours, reservation notes, the kind of mother profile it suits, and the budget range.

You know your mother best. Does she enjoy a view, or is gallery-hopping more her thing? A coastal walk, or a quiet café? When you read the “Best for” notes, the answer will already be in your mind.

A heads up: most popular venues fill up quickly during Mother’s Day week. We recommend completing your reservation or buying your online ticket by May 1. Bosphorus-front or window-side tables get booked even earlier.

When Is Mother’s Day 2026?

Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May in Turkey and in most countries around the world. In 2026, this date falls on Sunday, May 10. The first Sunday of May is May 3; the second Sunday is May 10.

Most brunch spots, restaurants, and museums in Istanbul put together a special program for that week. Some venues offer limited-capacity menus, live music, or small gift sets. These details are usually announced 2-3 weeks in advance; it’s worth asking when making your reservation.

A Full Day with Your Mother in One Place at Emaar Square Mall

If your mother gets tired with long walks, or if you’d rather not deal with traffic between two separate venues, Emaar Square Mall in Üsküdar and SkyView inside it can fill an entire day beautifully on its own. The first two venues below are within the same complex; you can plan a flow of morning breakfast, SkyView in the afternoon, tea-time desserts, and dinner if you’d like. One parking lot, one elevator, no fatigue for your mother.

1. Emaar SkyView, Üsküdar

SkyView sits on the upper floors of Emaar Square Mall in Ünalan, Üsküdar, at 300 meters above ground. Probably the most practical address for showing your mother Istanbul from above. You enter from the mall’s level -2 and ride the elevator up in 58 seconds. There’s a glass-floored walkway called SkyWalk; when you look down, the adrenaline peaks if your mother isn’t afraid of heights, it makes for incredible photos. Beside it, you’ll find the 360-degree panoramic observation terrace and Sky Cafe.

The nice thing about SkyView is the absence of time pressure. You buy your ticket and stay as long as you want. When your mother gets tired, she can sit at Sky Cafe, sip a coffee, and chat looking out over the view. There’s no “two-hour table turnover” pressure like in restaurants. If three generations come together, everyone is satisfied; you and your mother enjoy the view, while grandchildren (if any) head straight for SkyWalk.

Sky Cafe upstairs offers a pleasant break with coffee and snacks against the view. If you’re also planning a full breakfast, brunch, or dinner, Brooks Brothers Brasserie in the same complex is a flexible alternative fitting any time of day.

Address: Ünalan Mahallesi, Libadiye Cad. No:82, 34700 Üsküdar (Emaar Square Mall, level -2 entrance)
May 10 Sunday hours: 10:00 – 22:00, last ticket at 21:15
Tickets: Available online at bilet.emaareglence.com, recommended for skipping queues. For day-specific campaigns, be sure to follow the campaigns page
Budget: Mid-range. Check the ticket site for SkyView + SkyWalk combined ticket and café options
Best for: Mothers who enjoy a view, like to take photos, or want something beyond the usual venue routine. The easiest three-generation gathering for families with grandchildren.

2. Brooks Brothers Brasserie, Üsküdar

If you’re heading up to SkyView in the morning or afternoon, there’s an interesting address on the same building’s terrace floor for breakfast. Brooks Brothers Brasserie is also ideal for those who prefer an open-air setting. Brooks Brothers itself isn’t an ordinary brand; it has been America’s classic clothing icon since 1818. The brand has opened the world’s first and only branch of its brasserie concept in Turkey, at Emaar Square Mall. So if your mother visits, you can say “my mother dined at the world’s first branch of this concept.”

The brasserie concept is wonderfully flexible for Mother’s Day. Special sandwiches alongside your morning coffee, a special lunch menu at midday, an exquisite dessert menu at tea time. So if you go up to SkyView in the morning, breakfast at the brasserie; if afternoon, tea time and dessert; if evening, dinner after brunch. You can build the program independently of the time of day.

The atmosphere reflects Brooks Brothers’ classic American elegance. Wooden details, refined yet understated presentation, a calm environment. If you’re looking for somewhere to sit and have a long conversation rather than the noisy trendy brunch spots, this is worth considering. If your mother has grown weary of similar celebrations and is saying “something different,” Brooks Brothers Brasserie is a good alternative.

The advantage is the location, again. Have breakfast at the brasserie in the morning, then go down to level -2 of the mall and ride the elevator 58 seconds up to SkyView, and return to the brasserie for tea time on your way out if you wish. One parking lot, one location. A surprise for your mother, logistical ease for you.

Address: Ünalan Mahallesi, Libadiye Cad. No:82, Emaar Square Mall Terrace Floor, Üsküdar
May 10 Sunday hours: Within mall hours, 10:00 – 22:00 range
Reservation: We recommend booking ahead for busy days like Mother’s Day. Morning and tea-time slots fill faster
Budget: Premium. Brunch, lunch, and dinner menus differ; you can ask for details when reserving
Best for: Mothers who appreciate classic elegance, dislike noisy brunch venues, and seek a “first time I’ve seen a place like this” experience. Especially appeals to mothers interested in brand culture.

A Bosphorus-Side Breakfast with Your Mother

In Turkey, Mother’s Day partly resembles a breakfast day. The Bosphorus coast does get crowded, but it also captures the atmosphere best. Three classic addresses, each suited to a different profile.

3. Lokma, Emirgan

Lokma in Emirgan sits on Sakıp Sabancı Caddesi, facing Rumeli Hisarı across the strait. Right next to the coastal road, with generous indoor and outdoor space, the view is good from every table. Here, the recommendation is shaped as much by the neighborhood of Emirgan itself as by the venue. The Bosphorus on this side is calm in the morning, walkable, and scenic; tea gardens, seaside benches, and that classic Istanbul atmosphere facing Rumeli Hisarı make it a natural setting for a slow day with your mother.

For Mother’s Day, the smartest tactic is to go early in the morning (09:00-10:30); on Sundays after 11:30 it’s hard to find a spot, and the coastal road parking starts filling up after 09:30. The venue has valet parking, but going early still ensures your mother a peaceful breakfast.

Emirgan has another advantage: Emirgan Park and Sakıp Sabancı Museum are also in the same neighborhood, side by side. A long breakfast at Lokma in the morning, then a half-hour walk in the park, and finally a temporary exhibition at Sakıp Sabancı. An entire Mother’s Day program can be built around a single Emirgan day.

Address: Emirgan Mahallesi, Sakıp Sabancı Cad. No:60, Sarıyer
May 10 Sunday hours: Open every day 07:30 – 02:00, continuously
Reservation: Generally doesn’t take reservations; “first come, first served” is common. Prefer early hours
Budget: Lower-mid range. Traditional breakfast on the coastal road, below the average price band
Best for: Mothers who enjoy a Bosphorus view, like a coastal atmosphere, and want a classic Istanbul breakfast. If you’re willing to wake early, also family-friendly.

4. The House Cafe Ortaköy

The House Cafe’s Ortaköy branch is right on the Bosphorus. Next to Ortaköy Mosque, with a terrace facing the boats passing by. If you want to take your mother to one of the most frequently recommended classic places for Mother’s Day, this is among the first that comes to mind.

The pluses are clear. Great location, a rich breakfast menu, well-presented dishes. The drawbacks are equally clear. Driving to Ortaköy on Sunday afternoons is a hassle, table spacing is tight, and being popular brings the disadvantage of crowds. The smartest tactic is to go early (09:30-10:30) and leave before 12:30.

If The House Cafe is a place you’ve been visiting with your mother for years and have memories there, it’s a safe choice for Mother’s Day. If you’re taking her for the first time and she dislikes crowds, Lucca on the Bebek side may be the better decision.

Address: Salhane Sokak No:1, Ortaköy, Beşiktaş
May 10 Sunday hours: 08:00 – 22:30 (breakfast in the morning, à la carte service in the evening)
Reservation: If you want a Bosphorus-front table, booking ahead makes sense
Budget: Mid-to-upper range. Slightly above average due to its prime Bosphorus-front location
Best for: Mothers who enjoy a Bosphorus view, want a classic Istanbul brunch, and tolerate crowds. Suitable for families too.

5. Lucca, Bebek

Lucca in Bebek has been open since 2004, a Mediterranean cuisine venue with a flexible program from morning breakfast through dinner.

The real strength of our recommendation comes more from Bebek itself than from Lucca. Start the morning by walking from Bebek Park toward Arnavutköy along the coast, then sit down for breakfast at Lucca, and if you have the energy, continue on to Akıntıburnu. This three-part combination is one of the most beautiful Mother’s Day programs. Conversation flows while walking with your mother, and by the time you sit down at the table, you’re both relaxed rather than tense.

The only drawback is parking: Bebek on Sundays is a parking nightmare. If possible, take public transport, or park on the Etiler side and walk down.

Address: Bebek Mahallesi, Cevdetpaşa Cad. No:51/B, Beşiktaş
May 10 Sunday hours: Every day 10:00 – 02:00, continuously open (from breakfast through dinner and cocktails)
Reservation: We recommend booking ahead; you can specify a window-side or outdoor table preference
Budget: Premium. Bebek-area pricing, with comprehensive brunch and à la carte menus
Best for: Mothers who enjoy a coastal walk, know or are curious about Bebek’s classic atmosphere, and tolerate crowds.

A Quiet Lunch by the Bosphorus

6. Lacivert Restaurant, Anadolu Hisarı

Lacivert sits right next to Anadolu Hisarı. Right on the Bosphorus, with a terrace where boats can pull up. Open since 1999, run by Chef Hüseyin Ceylan, serving Turkish-Mediterranean cuisine. It carries a fine-dining air without being pretentious a sweet balance for your mother.

If you live on the Asian side or want to spend the entire day on the Asian side, Lacivert is almost perfect for Mother’s Day. The view is undeniably beautiful, the service attentive, and the menu doesn’t include anything overly modern that your mother might say “no, I don’t like that” about. The classic fish, meze, and soup sequence is well executed. There’s a special advantage on Sundays: it opens at 10:00 with Sunday breakfast and then transitions to à la carte service. So you can choose either breakfast or lunch.

Address: Anadolu Hisarı Mahallesi, Körfez Cad. No:57/A, Beykoz
May 10 Sunday hours: Opens 10:00 with breakfast, continuous service throughout the day until 23:30
Reservation: For Bosphorus-front tables, book ahead by phone or via OpenTable
Budget: Premium. Bosphorus-front fine-dining range, brunch and dinner menus differ
Best for: Mothers who enjoy a classic Bosphorus view and Turkish cuisine, prefer a calm setting. Practical location for families that prefer the Asian side.

A Mother’s Day Spent Visiting Exhibitions

If your mother’s idea of a perfect day is visiting exhibitions, reading museum guides, then sitting at a small café and discussing what you’ve seen, these two addresses are tailored to her taste. Museum entrance fees apply at the full rate on Mother’s Day Sunday; free days are weekdays.

7. Pera Museum, Tepebaşı

Pera Museum is in Tepebaşı. You can see Osman Hamdi Bey’s Tortoise Trainer here, the most well-known piece in the permanent collection. A new temporary exhibition calendar is being planned for May 2026; check the museum’s social media for the latest exhibitions before visiting.

We recommend this address because building a program around it is very easy. You visit the museum in the morning (1.5-2 hours is enough), then have lunch at Pera Café on your way out, or at one of the classic Istanbul restaurants two blocks away (Asmalı Cavit, Yakup 2). Afterwards, a short walk on İstiklal Caddesi rounds off the day.

A good choice for a non-tiring, calm, conversation-focused day. If you haven’t visited an exhibition with your mother in a long time, Mother’s Day is a good reason to start that again.

Address: Meşrutiyet Cad. No:65, Tepebaşı, Beyoğlu
May 10 Sunday hours: 12:00 – 18:00 (closed Mondays)
Admission: Full 300 TL, reduced 150 TL (students over 12, teachers and academics, those 60 and over), free for children under 12
Budget: Lower-mid range. Museum + lunch at Pera Café is an economical combination
Best for: Mothers who appreciate art, find gallery visits enjoyable, and want a tranquil day.

8. Istanbul Modern, Galataport

Istanbul Modern moved from its old Tophane building to its new home at Galataport about 2-3 years ago. Architecture by Renzo Piano, a Bosphorus-facing terrace on the rooftop, and inside, the most comprehensive collection of contemporary Turkish art. The museum experience is on a whole different level.

If your mother has an interest in art but is among those who say “classic museums are boring,” Istanbul Modern is the right address. There are contemporary works, video installations, and interactive areas it doesn’t feel like a standard museum visit. On the way out, you can walk inside Galataport, extend toward Karaköy, and have lunch at one of the seafood restaurants.

Address: Galataport İstanbul, Meclis-i Mebusan Cad., Karaköy, Beyoğlu
May 10 Sunday hours: 10:00 – 18:00 (closed Mondays)
Admission: Full 400 TL, reduced 220 TL. Residents of Turkey enter free Thursdays 10:00-14:00
Budget: Mid-range. Museum + Karaköy dining options offer a balanced day
Best for: Mothers open to contemporary art, attentive to modern architecture, curious about new spaces like Galataport.

Outside the City, Surrounded by Nature

If you’d like a Mother’s Day under the trees, in fresh air, away from the middle of the city, there are two options. One is half an hour by bus, the other an hour by ferry.

9. Emirgan Park and Sakıp Sabancı Museum

Emirgan Park is right in the middle of redbud and rose season in May. Walk in the park with your mother for half an hour or an hour, then move on to Sakıp Sabancı Museum next door. The museum’s restaurant, MSA, is a nice address for a Bosphorus-view lunch. The museum often hosts interesting temporary exhibitions as well.

The strength of this combination is its versatility. If your mother doesn’t enjoy exhibitions, the walk in the park and the restaurant alone are enough. If she does enjoy them, the museum adds an extra layer. If you’re bringing grandchildren, the park’s wide lawns give children plenty of space; you and your mother can watch them from a bench and chat in peace.

Address: Sakıp Sabancı Cad. No:42, Emirgan, Sarıyer
May 10 Sunday hours: Museum 10:00 – 18:00 (closed Mondays), park open 24/7
Admission: Sakıp Sabancı Museum full 300 TL, reduced 210 TL. Museum free all day on Tuesdays
Budget: Mid-to-upper range. Adding lunch at MSA Restaurant shifts it to the upper segment
Best for: Mothers who enjoy nature and art together, value open air. Suitable for families, including small children.

10. Heybeliada Day Trip

If your mother says “let’s get out of the city for a day, sit by the sea,” Heybeliada saves the day. About an hour by Şehir Hatları ferry from Bostancı or Kabataş. Transportation on the island is by bicycle, electric vehicle, or on foot. Doing the island tour, having lunch at a sea-view restaurant, then catching the sunset on the return ferry a classic Istanbul escape.

Our reason for choosing Heybeliada over Büyükada is the crowd. Büyükada gets overrun by domestic and international tourists on special days like Mother’s Day, while Heybeliada stays quieter. If your mother tires while walking, Heybeliada is the better choice.

Transport: Şehir Hatları ferry from Bostancı (Asian side) or Kabataş (European side), ~50-60 minutes. Check the Şehir Hatları website for ferry times
May 10 Sunday: Ferry frequency is at holiday-day level; the day can be planned long (10:00 departure, 18:00 return ideal)
Restaurant suggestion: Heyamola or Hüseyin’in Yeri (Suvla). Fills up quickly on Sundays — prefer early hours
Budget: Lower-mid range. Ferry, fish restaurant, and island tour together — the most budget-friendly option
Best for: Mothers who want to escape city noise, enjoy walks and sea air. If you’re bringing grandchildren, the island trip won’t tire them out.

A Few Practical Notes

Reservation timing. Most of the venues above set up special programs for Mother’s Day week and fill up quickly. We recommend completing your reservation by May 1. In restaurants, Bosphorus-view or window-side tables are the first to fill.

Traffic reality. On Sunday, May 10, the Bosphorus stretch (Bebek, Ortaköy, Arnavutköy, Emirgan) comes to a standstill in the afternoon. If possible, head out early (before 10:00 a.m.) or consider Asian side options. For Emaar Square Mall, metro and metrobus are much more comfortable.

Weather plan B. May is a beautiful month in Istanbul, but rain is not entirely off the table. If you’re planning outdoor activities (Bebek walk, Heybeliada, Emirgan Park), keep an indoor plan B at hand. Istanbul Modern instead of Bebek, Pera Museum instead of Heybeliada, SkyView instead of Emirgan are sensible swaps.

Flowers and gifts. Most venues allow you to bring flowers; some offer a small celebration cake service (usually with an additional service charge). Worth asking when making the reservation.

The phone matter. Whichever venue you choose, putting your phone away or muting it and keeping it off the table is the day’s biggest detail. Your mother is happiest not when bombarded by message notifications during lunch, but when you give her your full attention; whatever the food is.

Price and schedule changes. The information above is current as of April 2026 and verified from official sources. We recommend confirming up-to-date hours and prices via official websites or by phone before your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Mother’s Day 2026?

Mother’s Day 2026 is celebrated on Sunday, May 10. It falls on the second Sunday of May in Turkey and most countries around the world.

When is the best time to make a reservation for Mother’s Day?

The ideal window is between April 25 and May 1. After this, popular venues’ Sunday hours are largely booked. View-front tables or Bosphorus-side restaurants begin filling up earlier (around April 20).

Should you choose the Asian side or European side for Mother’s Day?

Choose the side your mother lives on. On Sunday, traffic on the Bosphorus Bridge can negatively affect your mother’s perception of the day. On the Asian side, SkyView and Brooks Brothers Brasserie in the same complex are strong options. On the European side: Lokma in Emirgan, Lucca Bebek, House Cafe Ortaköy, Pera Museum, Istanbul Modern, Emirgan Park with Sakıp Sabancı.

How to choose a Mother’s Day venue based on budget?

We offer suggestions in three budget bands. Lower-mid range: Heybeliada day trip and Pera Museum with lunch. Mid range: SkyView with breakfast at Lokma in Emirgan, or Istanbul Modern with a meal in Karaköy. Premium: SkyView with Brooks Brothers Brasserie pairing, lunch at Lacivert, brunch at Lucca are strong options.

Which venues are most suitable for mothers who have difficulty walking?

We recommend venues with short walking distances and ample seating. SkyView (elevator access, little walking inside), Brooks Brothers Brasserie (same building as SkyView, parking right next door), The House Cafe Ortaköy (valet parking right next to the venue), Lacivert (parking next to the restaurant), Lokma in Emirgan (next to the coastal road, valet available). The Heybeliada and Bebek walks aren’t suitable for this profile.

Where to go for Mother’s Day in rainy weather?

Fully indoor options. SkyView (glass terrace covered, indoor area also available), Brooks Brothers Brasserie (on the terrace floor but the indoor section is enclosed, works in rainy weather), Lokma in Emirgan (large indoor area), Pera Museum, Istanbul Modern. Bebek walk, Heybeliada, and Emirgan Park don’t work in rainy weather, plan B is essential.

There are plenty of options for Mother’s Day 2026 in Istanbul, but each of the 10 venues on this list has a real advantage; we didn’t randomly say “the view is nice” — we considered each based on a different mother profile. Your mother’s profile is the closest information to you. Read the “Best for” notes above, pick one, make the reservation this week, and the rest takes care of itself when the day comes.

If you can’t decide, there are two paths. On the Asian side, the SkyView + Brooks Brothers Brasserie pair is the most practical combination: one parking lot, one location, two different experiences without tiring your mother. On the European side, breakfast at Lokma in Emirgan, then a walk in Emirgan Park, followed by an exhibition at Sakıp Sabancı — this trio can fill an entire day in a single neighborhood.

Whichever you choose, have a wonderful day on Sunday, May 10.
